Teaching our daughter to ski for the first time at Big White was an adventure we’ll never forget. As parents, we wanted to make sure her introduction to skiing was fun, comfortable, and exciting—so we took a few key steps to prepare her (and ourselves!) for the experience. We’re so excited to ski together as a family!
Priming Her for the Slopes
Before we even hit the snow, we knew it was important to get our daughter excited about skiing. We decided to do some priming, and spent time going to the bunny hill. Showing her other kids skiing confidently down the slopes really helped spark her interest. The visuals helped her understand that skiing is fun, and seeing other children ski made her feel like it was something she could do too!
Visiting the Rental Shop
Our first visit was meant to just prime her for the skiing experience. But we decided to swing by the rental shop as well to have a look. I just wanted to get her sized so when it came time to do a rental, we knew what we needed.
The staff at the rental shop were so incredibly friendly, and we ended up trying on ski boots! They patiently helped us get her fitted, and this gave our daughter a chance to walk around in the ski boots and get used to how they felt. The staff even explained how the rentals worked for kids, where you could rent them for the reason. And that was so good to learn because kids grow so fast and we wouldn’t have to worry about making sure her equipment was fitting year over year. The rental experience was so good in building her confidence and ours too!
Preparing for Future Ski Days
This first trip was all about easing our daughter into the world of skiing. Even though we didn’t hit the slopes yet, the prep made her more comfortable with the idea. By the time we returned for her official first ski day, she was ready to give it a try with much more excitement and less fear.
Why Big White is Perfect for Family Skiing
Big White is the perfect place for family skiing adventures, and we couldn’t be happier with how supportive and welcoming the experience was—from “priority” parking, family friendly areas, to the friendly faces at the rental shop. We’re looking forward to many more ski trips with our little ones in the future!
