I recently took a quick work trip to Chicago, and even though traveling while pregnant can be a bit of a challenge, I was eager to go and made sure to squeeze in some fun amidst the meetings. Hope you enjoy the photo recap!
Boat Cruise on the Chicago River
One of the best parts of the trip was an architectural tour via boat cruise on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. It was my first time, and the city’s skyline is even more stunning from the water. It was the perfect way to relax and decompress before the long trip home. I chose to take Wendella because they didn’t look as congested as the other tours. The guide Kenneth was awesome!
Dining in Chicago
Of course, I couldn’t miss out on some of Chicago’s famous food. I had an incredible dinner at The Purple Pig. It had been years since I last went, and thankfully it was still as good as ever. The food was fantastic. The vibe was lively, and the service was great, I had a great night out with myself.
I also made a stop at Portillo’s for a classic Chicago experience. The hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches were just as amazing as I’d heard. And of course I had to get Shake Shack.
Balancing Work and Pregnancy
Traveling for work while pregnant takes a bit more planning. I made sure to stay hydrated, take breaks when needed, and find moments to relax. It wasn’t always easy, but I managed to get through it with a good balance of work and downtime. Since I was visiting Chicago in August, I knew it was going to be quite hot and humid so I just packed dresses to wear each day. My travel outfits weren’t very cute because I wanted to be able to walk long distances without getting uncomfortable (IYKYK) and was wore compression socks on the flights just to keep the circulation going.
A Memorable Experience
This work trip to Chicago was a nice reminder that it’s possible to juggle work and personal life, even with the added challenge of pregnancy and not being able to do the things you’re normally used to doing. I enjoyed getting the time to myself before unleashing the chaos of having 2 young children. I loved taking my little bean to the Bean. And it was nice making room for fun and like with the boat cruise, dinner at The Purple Pig, and trying something new to me – Portillo’s!
